Hey, not so fast.

A weird image, bearing an unfamiliar Logo, has been detected, in particular, at the very beginning of Spider-Man: Across the Multi-Verse, starring Miles Morales, released in 2023:

First Impressions:

  • A Black & White image apparently designed to look like a Stamp, with each word in CAPS, using terminology that purports to convey a sense of authority or authorization.

  • A SYMBOL in the lower half of the image, possibly conveying insight, a formula, or an equation, potentially pertaining to a combination involving the Letter A (in the MIDDLE) and two manifestations of the Letter C, with the "separate" aspects of the C, depicted as existing on each side of the adjoining A (e.g., one continuous C depicted as existing as both sides (e.g., left and right) of the A.

  • An image combing words and images known as a "Logo."

  • The lines in the middle seem to be implying fast movement or speed. Are they trying to imply that they are fast/faster? (Well, that's laughable).

  • It's curious that this rather important sounding image appears for a fraction of a second within two-hour film. Did they intend for it not to be seen?

  • These facts were particularly notable considering that this Image was seen in a Comic-Book-Come-to-Life Vehicle Starring Miles Morales, the first Bi-racial, Black-Puerto Rican, Spider-Man.

  • Whatever the heck it was (past tense), it was not getting past Us. Dumb, inexplicable, sneaky shit like that is automatically rejected by our obviously more advanced "Computers.”

Analysis:

The image references the Comics Code Authority a group founded in 1954. Essentially serving as censorship, the organization had both supporters and detractors. The following history is intriguing:

"By the early 2000s, publishers bypassed the CCA and Marvel Comics abandoned it in 2001. By 2010, only three major publishers still adhered to it: DC Comics, Archie Comics, and Bongo Comics. Bongo broke with the CCA in 2010. DC and Archie followed in January 2011, rendering the code completely defunct."

Conclusions:

  • There is no readily available coherent explanation as to why a Code considered to be defunct in 2011 appears in a film released in 2023.

  • There is no readily available information to confirm the legal, regulatory, legislative, or policy structure under which a defunct code is revived.

  • The reasoning for placing this particular "code", from this particular organization, within this particular film, at this particular time, felt sketchy. In fact, the whole thing -- the organization, its history, its dissolution, the branding, the logo -- felt intentionally mysterious.
